India has an average 10 suicides every day, which are related to drug abuse. This is as per the data tabled in Rajya Sabha on 2014 monsoon session, by National Crime Records Bureau. And this is not just limited to Northern states like Punjab as shown in movies. Every part of India has its share in this dubious record.

It is not just the hard drugs (heroin, cocaine), but the abuse of prescription drugs as well, which is increasing this number. Governments and authorities blame either an external force or country or the supplier of drugs for this problem. But what we all must realise is that like anywhere in the world, it is not a supply problem. It is a demand problem. Killing or shutting down the supply will not kill the demand. You cut of one supply channel, another one takes its place, as far as there is demand.
